French fashion house Sonia Rykiel to design lingerie
“Queen of Knits” Dame Sonia Rykiel and her famous French fashion house are set to launch the first lingerie line with H & M this December.
The underwear collection is hailed as “accessibly-priced” and “totally modern” reflecting Sonia Rykiel’s philosophy and creating a new global fashion bridge between couture and lingerie world. The line will debut at 1,500 H&M stores worldwide and major Sonia Rykiel boutiques around the world on December 5, 2009.
This is a totally modern, new kind of lingerie look, and when we started to work with Rykiel on it, we just couldn’t stop,” H&M’s creative advisor, Margareta van den Bosch said. “It’s a wonderful highlight of our main collection.”
According to the source, the idea to create the undies range was inspired by Sonia Rykiel’s Spring 2010 collection that simultaneously marks Dame Rykiel’s 40th anniversary in business.
This collaboration fits perfectly with our philosophy,” said Nathalie Rykiel, president and artistic director of Sonia Rykiel. “The Sonia Rykiel pour H&M lingerie collection is the ideal way to offer the essence of Rykiel to a great number of women around the world, and a beautiful way to close the year.”
For the last 40 years Sonia Rykiel has been the symbol of bourgeois luxury, independence and refined elegance. Queen of Knits created and sold her first knitted sweater in 1962 and eventually chose this material as the lead one for all her collections.
Do you think knits will be used in the lingerie range as well? Leave your thoughts in comments!
