The 1950s style is officially back! According to lingerie market experts and judging by the sales, next spring/summer season is all about conical bras that were first presented by Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe in early 1950s.

This trend has been neglected for quite a long time and was only revived for a while in 1980s. Madonna’s infamous cone bra is a vivid example of the renaissance.

Anyway, the trend is back to store racks after fashion extravagances like Jean Paul Gaultier and Dolce & Gabbana used the coned shaped bras in their latest Spring/Summer 2010 collections, though as a part of outerwear, this time.

Even though now it’s absolutely ok to wear a bra as a piece of outerwear these days (thinking Lady GaGa), sales of conical bras as a piece of lingerie witness an obvious boost, too.

Sales have shown that women are no longer hiding their breasts under minimiser bras but embracing their assets and using them to their advantage,” John Lewis store said. “Conical bras have 48 technological components to help create that 1950s silhouette. Channel your inner 1950s starlet and get the Jane Russell look with a lightweight cashmere jumper teamed with a pencil skirt and killer heels to get the look.”

Others claim that this return to more voluptuous look and celebration of feminine curves is a fashion answer to economic situation. They say the same happened during tough economic times before.

Throughout the last century the trend for feminine pointy shaped bras experienced a renaissance following times of a toughened economy, marking a return of unabashed femininity as women seek to have more fun with fashion as a form of escapism,” Triumph Doreen White spokesman said.

According to fashion stylists, the cone shaped bras of the 1950s and late 1980s are certainly back, as the world’s top designers are moving away from recession inspired “less is more” and offering more playful collections as the economy begins to recover.
